CHRIS LANEY Pure Metal Heaven (2009)
If there was ever a hard rock album that should work in 2009 it's the debut solo album by acclaimed Swedish songwriter and producer Chris Laney.
He's not alone in this venture: Laney has roped in some top rock songwriters such as ex-KISS guitarist Bruce Kulick, Lennart Östlund and Mats Levén. He's also got a bunch of musicians to make guest appearances such as Vic Zino (Hardcore Superstar), J. Koleberg (Animal) and Nalle Pahlsson (Treat).
Laney's career in rock producing/engineering has seen him work with Europe, Brian Robertson, Bruce Kulick and Candlemass. He's also the guitarist in Animal and Zan Clan. 'Pure' is a blast from start to finish.
'Situation' is a solid rock song that paves the way for gems like 'Make You Cry' and 'Pissed At What Ya Missed.' Vocally, Laney sounds great and guitar work by Laney and his special guests is top-notch. It's an excellent debut album with some standout tracks and a big production.
There are touches of early Van Halen and Whitesnake; it's thoroughly enjoyable eighties style hard rock.
