V-RATS Intelligent Design (2008)
New album with a real hard edge. Heavy metal with a punk edge that hits you in the face with a sledgehammer, and beautifully illustrated by Rodney Matthews too.
With a bass intro, the first main track is "No Good For Me" which features a twin guitar solo, and some neat riffs too; bassist Pete MZ Emms' vocals add that sleaze / punk edge.
There's a touch of the metal that Nazareth have nodded at on their new album, very riff led, to "Dirty Little Secret". "Know Definition" is similar in style, the guitars trading riffs before one branches out to solo.
The guitar sound on "et al" is quite bright, but in a solid way. Riffs and chops aplenty, imagine if guitar/pop or punk went straight down the road metal. Most punk bands couldn't make a metal album this good though, they're just not good or consistent enough.
The lyrics and melody to "Point Of No Return" are reminiscent of singer/songwriter, done metal style.
No Frills Metal, and well worth checking out, the album is available from Amazon.
