TONI ROWLAND Unfolding Grand Axe Music (2008)
South African singer Toni Rowland's album will certainly tweak the interest of Uriah Heep fans as it features former Heep member Ken Hensley who not only produces the album but plays on the songs as well, adding his distinctive Hammond organ throughout the course of the album. He provided the musicians as well who all put in sterling performances.
In the biog accompanying this CD Toni Rowland says she is a fan of Fleetwood Mac and this is the band nearest to the sound of the music on here. 'Photographs In A Little Red Box' is a superb tune, instantly catchy and radio friendly and along with 'Hold On' really brings to mind the post-80's sound of Fleetwood Mac. Toni Rowland is also not afraid to tackle very sensitive issues in her lyrics including the moving 'Souls Of All People' (9/11).
Nicely packaged as well with a DVD featuring an interview with Toni and performance footage of some of the songs on the album. If you like Fleetwood Mac and pop orientated AOR this is an album for you.
