SIMON SAYS Tardigrade Prog Rock Records (2008)
Despite having only three albums to their name (the other two being 1995's 'Ceinwen' and 2002's 'Paradise Square) this band has a rather convoluted past due to line-up changes and previously working under a different band moniker, that of Egg.
The line-up of 2008 is: singer Daniel Feidt, guitars/percussionist Jonas Hallberg, drummer/backing vocalist Mattias Jarihed, bassist/keyboardist Stefan Renstorm and keyboardist Magnus Paulsson. Yes fans will probably appreciate 'Tardigrade.' There are lots of drawn out jam spots and almost psychedelic rhythms.
Some of it is clever stuff but perhaps it's too 'out there' for non-prog rock fans. They definitely draw their inspiration from sixties and seventies bands like the aforementioned Yes, Genesis and Rush et al.
The first song 'Suddenly The Rain' lasts for almost 15 minutes so only dedicated and interested progressive rock fans will hang around for the rest of the album. It's exhaustive stuff but some of it is worthwhile if you persevere!
