RICHIE KOTZEN Live In Sao Paulo Frontiers (2008)
Richie Kotzen is of course a legend in the melodic rock world having played in Poison and Mr. Big; he now enjoys a successful solo career and has done for some time now.
He's probably one of the best guitarists in the business and even opened for the Rolling Stones in 2006. Both vocally and musically he sounds pretty damned good on this live album. He is aided by bassist Johnny Griparic and drummer Dan Potruch.
There are a dozen tracks including a cracking version of the Poison song 'Stand.' The bluesy 'A Love Divine' is terrifically performed and the ballad 'Remember' brings an emotional touch to an electric performance.
'Shape Of Things' is a stand out track, showing just how soulful his voice is. Some live albums are either too long or too short; I think 12 tracks is just about right. It's a treat for collectors of Kotzen's work because it's his first ever solo live album; recorded from his South American tour in 2007.
I suppose overall the set list displays his versatility and virtuoso talents as a musician and something of a musical journeyman. Kotzen is a true professional.
