POWERWORLD Powerworld Metal Heaven (2008)
A new project formed by members of such respected European bands as Freedom Call, At Vance and Jaded Heart, Power World (crap name!) weigh in with an impressive debut, which treads no new ground albeit one through it all the man of the match is 23 year old vocalist Steffen Brunner who sings in a soaring, high-pitched but clear register calling to mind Helloween's Michael Kiske or Tony Harnell of TNT and Westworld.
The musical style is melodic hard rock, ranging from heavier numbers such as the Stratovarius like opener Creatures and Breaking the Silence (track 10) to those whose symphonic choruses lodge in your head after a few listens like Fight Fire with Fire, I Reach the Light and Dancing with Angels.
Most impressive of all were the Rainbow-esque stylings of Your World is Not Mine and set closer Melody, one of the sway along anthems that the Scorpions have done so well over the years. However their cover of Cutting Crew's I Just Died in Your Arms did not work for me, sounding a bit too much like Euro pop. Overall an impressive start though.
