JILL BARBER For All Time Baudelaire (2008)
Canadian songstress whose album finally gets a UK release after originally being released back in 2006. Jill barber has a lovely vocal, at times very mellow and on some songs with a slightly huskier tone.
There is plenty of musical variety form the jazz tinged 'When I'm Makin' Love To You' through to the country feel on 'Don't Go Easy'. Then you get a bit of gentle folk music in the shape of 'Starting To Show', some lovely singing on this one - a real candles and headphones tune!
Bit of slow blues playing on 'Just For Now' really does highlight the breadth of music on this album. Hard to pick a similar sounding artists for comparison really, Eleanor McEvoy would be closest. Accomplished musical backing throughout makes for a very enjoyable album and worthy of investigation.
