IAN MCLAGAN AND THE BUMP BAND Never Say Never Proper Records (2008)
He may not look it but Ian McLagan is one of this country’s true rock legends, having been a member of The Small Faces, The Faces and toured with the Rolling Stones, he is the real deal- and on the occasions that I’ve met him, he is a bloody nice bloke too.
For the last few years McLagan has played with the Bump Band and they are about to release their latest album “Never Say Never”, an album full of raw, emotional and soulful tracks. Highlights include the almost reggae like “A Little Black Number”, “I Will Follow” which is reminiscent of The Faces, the haunting piano and vocals of “Where Angels Hide”, “I’m Hot, You’re Cool”- a track that reminds me of when the Stones do Rock n Roll and “When The Crying Is Over”, which is a blinding tribute to Ian’s late wife Kim.
This album is great for chilling out to with a drink, and also for the more lively gatherings- the balance has been struck nicely here.
