GMT Evil Twin Retrowrek Records (2008)
GMT - Robin Guy, John McCoy and Bernie Torme - return with their second album and a high level of expectation following their superb debut album. Can they match their debut? Indeed they can and 'Punko Rocco' starts the album off in fine rocking style and features guest vocals from Twisted Sister's Dee Snider (who worked with Torme in the criminally underrated Desperado album). As an album opener you won't find many finer!
The title track is the most instant song on here. After a tabla intro the guitar kicks in to make a very catchy tune and former Gillan band member Colin Towns again guests on keyboards.
This album also sees the band try a few new things musically with a barnstorming blues number 'Perfumed Garden' where Torme shows his blues licks backed by a monster McCoy bass riff. 'Jonny Sitar' again sees the tabla used to good effect and the song has a nice late 60's psychedelic vibe running through it.
For no nonsense punk/metal tunes look no further than 'Wheel Of Fortune' and 'You Can't Hold Me' with drummer Robin Guy bashing seven shades of the proverbial out of his kit. The album ends with a bit of fun in a song dedicated to bassist John McCoy 'The Humours Of John McCoy', as the lyric says we are 'Blasting off for Planet McCoy'!
GMT doesn’t disappoint on their second album and fans of their debut will love this album. If you have yet to sample the delights of GMT what are you waiting for? If you like hard rock, punk, metal and a little blues this is the band for you.
