GAVIN ROSSDALE Wanderlust Interscope (2008)
Former Bush vocalist strikes out on a solo path with big name producer Bob Rock (Metallica/Aerosmith) along for the ride. Bush were grunge darlings yet this solo album has little of that genre's souns, Rossdale goes for the more melanchony tunes like 'I Can't Stop The World' or the very U2 sounding 'Frontline'.
Elsewhere Rossdale's vocals and the lush backing arrangements reminded me of Dashboard Confessional - check out 'Forever May You Run' for further proof. Plenty of slow, reflective songs like 'Love Remains The Same' - a co-write with Marti Frederiksen (Aerosmith). But you do wish for a real rock out tune to break up the music on offer on here.
Bush fans will still love the voice I am sure but maybe not so much the music. If you like latterday U2, REM or Dashboard Confessional this album will certainly please you.
