CROWN OF GLORY A Deep Breath Of Life Metal Heaven (2008)
Led by the Muther brothers, singer Heinz and guitarist Markus, Swiss band Crown of Glory have progressed from a number of support slots and two mini CDs to release their first full length album.
Fans of bands like Royal Hunt and Edguy will find much to enjoy in an accomplished set of songs with the likes of the somewhat Malmsteen-esque Pathfinder and The Raven's flight having an epic feel to them.
Inspiration takes down the pace with an anthemic chorus before the more aggressive power metal stylings of The Prophecy. There are also some more mainstream melodic moments such as Save Me, Mirror Mirror and above all See You Rise which will appeal to fans of fellow countrymen Gotthard and China.
The playing is solid throughout but keyboardist Philipp Meier, at times coming over like a crazed Jon Lord, wins man of the match honours.
All in all, an impressive piece of work that augurs well for the future.
