COBRA First Strike Rock Candy (2008)
A band of some pedigree, with major label backing, and some damn fine melodic rock, yet sadly they didn't take off.
This 1983 Epic album gets a CD release at last, and the band feature Jimi Jamison (later of Survivor), Mandy Meyer and Tommy Keiser (both Krokus) and guitarist/keyboardist Jack Holder (Black Oak Arkansas). The band were augmented by some solid drumming from Jeff Klaven, and with producer Tom Allom you had a serious line-up.
The album gets off to a good start with "Blood On Your Money", and it's pounding solid hard rock from then on. Melodic hard rock with some good guitar solos, a solid sound that is on the heavy side of radio friendly / AOR. Tracks like "Travellin' Man" are guaranteed to get you nodding. The slower more balladic "I've Been A Fool Before" is one of the weaker and more commercial moments.
A great album and well packaged, with full album information and lengthy sleevenotes that include an interview with Jimi Jamison and plenty of period press cuttings.
If you like melodic hard rock, you'll love this.
