As fellow GRTR! Scribe Pete Whalley
pointed out, it was nearly 30 years to the day that we’d last seen BOC.
Well, perhaps an overstatement, seen through a booze induced stupor during
the ‘On Your Feet Or On Your Knees’ tour (More on your knees as I recall).
I do remember the “revolutionary” laser lights though.
With their last studio album
appearing seven years ago, BOC seem to be content to milk their back
catalogue. And now with only two of the original line-up, Eric Bloom and
Buck Dharma, supported by Danny Miranda on bass, second guitarist and
keyboards Richie Castellano and drummer Jules Radino.
With a sweep through the core
seventies albums, the hardened fan would be well pleased with the
inclusion of tracks like ‘Astronomy’ and ‘Shooting Shark’. Perhaps
surprisingly, Buck’s set-piece ‘Buck’s Boogie’ lost its way and revealed
that here is a band that is coasting into oblivion. But to compensate,
there were solid versions of 'Godzilla' and 'Cities On Flame'.
The lack of an encore disappointed
the partisan crowd on this last gig of a short UK tour. There’s a strong
suspicion that – instead - Buck was busy organising a golf caddy for his
return to the States. ‘On Your Feet, Or On Your Knees’? On your arse,
perhaps. See you at the 19th hole.
