BIG LINDA I Loved You Ursa Major Records (2008)
First of all, Big Linda is not somebody grotesquely huge and ugly like Rosie from AC/DC's 'Whole Lotta Rosie.' They're a rock band and the band is singer Rob Alder, bassist Vezio Bacci, drummer Geoff Holroyde and Patrick Murdoch on guitars.
Big Linda have built up some considerable hype around this album and as is often NOT the case, the hype is justified. They've been reviewed in the Sunday Times for Christ sakes…that is surely something good for us rockers.
A rock band with more than a passing nod or two to such bands as The Black Crowes and Led Zep mentioned in a broad sheet newspaper! It doesn't happen too often.
This is an encouraging debut album from the London based band although when they slow down for the ballads things become a bit yawnful. Certainly QOTSA style songs like 'Idelu' are addictive and imaginative. On the whole, this is very promising stuff with some interesting moments.
