ALIBI Voice Of Reason Z Records (2008)
Alibi return following their enjoyable debut 'Misdemeanour' and on a new label Z Records. Vince O'Regan again handles production which is slightly heavier and deeper in sound than the band's debut (some reviews at the time criticised the tinny sound). Vocalist Rick Chase again proves his worth and for those who enjoy British melodic rock Chase has the perfect voice for this style of music.
Vince O'Regan has worked with Bob Catley previously and a couple of songs on here you could easily imagine making a Bob Catley solo album, namely the ballad 'The Longest Day' and 'Just Another Day' (both feature great solos from Vince O'Regan). Another slow track 'Tears Of The Innocent' reminded me of the mighty Strangeways, whilst 'Fire In The Sky' starts with slow drum and acoustic guitar before building into an almost Magnum like epic. Two decent bonus songs, 'Time Stands Still' and 'Sign Of The Times', as well on the limited edition version.
A very strong and enjoyable second album with the band moving away from the 80's melodic rock sound of Firehouse to a more harder edged, classic hard rock sound. The album does lack a real instant hit but other than that fans of the debut and bands like Lost Weekend, FM and Bob Catley should snap this one up.
