VELVET REVOLVER Hammersmith Apollo, London 5 June 2007
On paper Velvet Revolver's Download warm up at the Hammersmith Apollo should have been one of the top gigs of the year. However, due to the poor performance of the soundman, this was one of the poorest gigs I have witnessed for a long time.
Visually the band were bang on and looked like they were playing out of their skins. But the bass and drums were the only clearly audible parts as the vocals and guitars were mostly unrecognisable with only odd snatches of clarity.
The set itself featured classics such as 'Fall To Pieces', 'Do It For The Kids' and GnRs 'It’s So Easy' alongside new songs including 'The Last Fight', 'Let It Roll' and 'She Builds Quick Machines'.
There were also covers in the form of Pink Floyds 'Wish You Were Here' and Talking Heads 'Psycho Killer'.
The songs that met the best reception were 'Set Me Free', 'Slither' and STPs 'Vaseline'. Fortunately, Velvet Revolver's performance at Download made up for the poor sound of this warm-up.
