THE SERVANT How To Destroy A Relationship Escape Music (2007)
Apparently the Servant's debut album shifted over 150,000 copies which coupled with favourable reviews from Rolling Stone magazine means there is high expectation surrounding this release. Musically they vary from hard edge indie rock such as ‘Sleep Deprivation' (revel in the guitar riff on this one) through to the more acoustically led ‘Hey Lou Reed', a plea to be famous and not ignored as a musician.
For straight ahead catchy pop rock moments you'd be hard to better the title track or ‘Brains' whilst ‘(I Should Be Your) Girlfriend' is one for airplay as it has a memorable chorus and a song that you want to hear again as soon as it is over. The latter reminded me of the Supernaturals, another band who produced wonderful pop rock gems that can appeal to a wide audience.
Enjoyable music that delves into pop rock, indie guitar rock and more - worthy of your listening time that's for sure.
