THE REASON Landermason (2007)
A duo consisting of Fiona Lander (vocals/piano/sax/whistles/clarinet/recorder) and Paul Mason (vocals/guitars) have produced a wonderful album that encompasses folk, acoustic and jazz (although if like me you're not a big fan of jazz fear not as the influences are classic jazz ones).
They have two very strong voices as well they ably compliment each other and on the harmonies they sound like Simon & Garfunkel (although obviously with one female voice!), they really are that good. Hard to pick highlights but 'I Know There's A Reason' shows their musical strengths - just marvel in those vocals.
Traditional tunes get a new lease of life as well including a wonderful run through 'When The Boat Comes In' and 'Dance To Your Daddy'. Some very tasty instrumentals such as 'XYZ' where the duo is complimented by fiddles.
Fans of Mostly Autumn and Karnataka will enjoy this album I am sure, although it is not a guitar led as these two bands. A strong album of accessible folk music one to enjoy for many years to come.
