SPARKS Introducing Sparks Beethoven Records (2007)
The last Sparks album to make it onto CD, 'Introducing Sparks' was first released back in 1977. Although there are no hit singles on here the band's quirky sense of humour coupled with glorious pop rock melodies is in place none more so than 'Occupation' and the cheeky 'A Big Surprise'.
The repetitive refrain on 'Forever Young' really sinks into your mind and 'Goofing Off' sees the band try a little Beachboys harmony on the intro. A couple of songs miss the mark but even these are worth a listen and it is down to personal choice at the end of the day.
Sparks have dabbled in many musical styles from disco to pomp rock but they really come into their own when they produce quirky pop rock like the songs contained on this album. Wonderful listening!
