RUMOURS OF FLEETWOOD MAC Weston-super-Mare Playhouse, 31 October 2007
Billing them as a tribute act wouldn't go half way to describing a rather splendid celebration of Fleetwood Mac and their music by this Liverpool group. Using plenty of Scouse humour to punctuate a near perfect copy of the originals, they stormed through hit after hit to a packed and appreciative house.
Covering every aspect of the bands' various line-ups must present a challenge in itself but one they were certainly equal to. Peter Greens classic contributions being well represented with outstanding renditions of Green Manalishi and Albatross. Alan Hughes had Lyndsay Buckingham's guitar sound off to a tee, even down to the brilliant finger picking on Never Going Back Again. Though, as with the real thing, it was the girls who were the focal point for most of the night.
Blonde, Louise Rogan was highly convincing as Stevie Nicks, both in stature and vocal ability. Whilst Amanda Kostadinov's stunning version of Songbird was simply breathtaking. The vocal harmonies on The Chain far surpassed expectations, with the rumbling bass mid section, recreated to absolute perfection. With the whole house up on their feet dancing, they closed with the upbeat Don't Stop. I only wish they hadn't!
Just whether Fleetwood Mac will ever return to these shores is doubtful, though even if they did I doubt they would be able to recreate the passion and obvious love this band has for their material. Without doubt, this was a fitting tribute to a great band.
