Lovely Rita in mellow jazz set...
Alternating between jazz standards from her latest album and singles like 'We're All Alone' this dvd covers the breath of Rita's repertoire from a salute to Ray Charles to her biggest hit Higher And Higher.
Presumably a made for TV 'live in front of an audience' with plenty of narrative between the songs, the set opens with a jazz based number Hallalujah, Ilove Him So followed by a chiiled out version of Delaney and Bonnie's classic Superstar. And that sets the standard for the rest of the set - mellow jazz (Cry Me A River, Fever) and jazz influenced blues, ballads and southern rock including a bluesy Born Under A Bad Sign.
On Stage, then, finds Rita comfortable in her own skin, in comfortable surroundings playing to an appreciative audience. And if you were at all inclined to visit a jazz club and stumbled in on a set like this I suspect you'd be well satisfied.
Bonus features aren't that extensive - a 20 minute interview, a 10 minute trailer for the World Café concert series, and photo gallery of shots from the gig. Not destined to be a big seller, but it will nevertheless be appreciated by fans.
