NEAL MORSE Sola Scriptura Inside Out (2007)
Neal Morse has done it again producing another fine album and like its predecessors it sees another change in musical style and direction. It is a concept piece based on the Augustinian monk Martin Luther, who believed man should live only according to the scriptures.
Morse has taken Luther and his life story to produce a very interesting and rewarding piece of music. Ably assisted by Dream Theater's Mike Portnoy and bassist Randy George along with former Mr Big guitar wizard Paul Gilbert.
Gilbert really adds some neat soloing and the album does have some very heavy passages especially on 'The Conflict'. The three epic pieces all build nicely and there are plenty of solos to enjoy along with Morse's knack for penning very melodic and catchy choruses.
'Heaven In My Heart' is a beautiful piano led number and the most accessible, straight forward tune on the album.
Neal Morse has produced another excellent and satisfying listen. Never one to stand still or keep peddling the same style plus this time you get the added bonus of Paul Gilbert on guitars. Like his previous albums this is a 'must have'.
