MYSTERY Beneath The Veil of Winter's Face Unicorn Digital (2007)
The band's first album with new vocalist Benoit David and what a treat it is! If you are after comparisons try an AOR version of Yes with a touch of Kansas and Marillion thrown in (and none of that sub-Coldplay nonsense Marillion have been peddling of late either!).
'As I Am' is simply wonderful, from the keyboards through to the exquisite guitar solos with a hint of Journey in the harmonies. Very AOR and very good. David's vocals are very melodic and suit the musical landscape perfectly. For the more progressive fan try 'The Awakening', an eleven minute workout with plenty of musical variety and soloing to keep the prog fan happy.
'The Preacher's Fall' ensures the album finishes strongly as well with the keys to the fore.
I have never come across this band before but I am mightily impressed with this album which proves you can successful marry the melodic parts of AOR with the more progressive rock leanings of the band's music.
