MATCHBOX TWENTY Exile On Mainstream Atlantic (2007)
A greatest hits collection with six new songs, which for me are amongst the better tunes on the album. The band is massive in the US and here in the UK is a big live draw, although many rock fans will not be that familiar with their music.
Matchbox Twenty's music has never quite clicked with me previously. But on their new songs, bar the rather tame 'Can't Let You Go', the band have definitely made me sit up and take notice.
Steve Lillywhite is at the production helm and you can take your pick of songs destined to become airplay favourotes from the jangly pop rock of 'I'll Believe You When' through to the heartfelt 'If I Fall'. Good, strong song writing and melodies throughout.
The remaining eleven songs are the bands previous hits like '3 AM', 'Unwell' and 'Push' and their best song IMHO 'Bright Lights'. I am still not convinced on some of their older material but if they carry on producing songs like the new ones on here then I will be very pleased indeed.
If you have previously been lukewarm to their music like myself or yet to sample the band's music then get this CD!
