JACKDAW 4 Bipolar Diversions 369 Music (2007)
Jackdaw 4 return with their second album after releasing the superb debut album, 'Gramophone Logic'. The main driving force behind the band is Willie Dowling and again along with his fellow band members has produced a wonderful album chock full of bittersweet pop rock gems.
'SOOMA (All This Vision)' defines what is great about this band - harmonies galore, lots of instrumentation and a wonderful lyric – SOOMA, is the sun shines out of my ass!
'My Little Gangsta' takes a swipe at youngsters obsessed with gangsta rap and again the lyrics have you smiling away to yourself. The lyrics to 'Jesus Wants My Soul Back' raise a smile as well and the music is a real treat for the listener's ears.
The title track, along with 'SOOMA' could be hit singles if only given the airplay whilst 'Sleep' sees the band veer of their pop rock sound into an almost trippy tune, complete with lush keys and arrangements.
Willie Dowling is a national treasure, as like Ginger of the Wildhearts, he can pen wonderful tunes that hit the spot musically and lyrically, a feat not often achieved by many.
This will easily make my top ten albums of the year and give it a listen and I'd bet it would make yours!
