HOLLY THROSBY Under The Town Woo Me! (2006)
Sydney based singer-songwriter Holly Throsby released her debut album 'On Night' in late 2004 to quiet acclaim. And when it reached UK shores last year it received equally favourable reactions.
A thoughtful and introspective songwriter, Holly's second album was recorded with producer Tony Dupe at his house on Saddleback Mountain on the NSW South Coast over the Australian summer. And this time around, Holly's songs and guitar are orchestrated with the help of Tony (piano, bouzouki, clarinet, trumpet), Jens Birchall (cello, double bass), labelmate Jack Ladder (bass) and Bree van Reyk (drums).
Holly's vocal delivery is very similar to that of fellow Oz singer-songwriter Missy Higgins, but her songs are less commercial and hook laden. Her songs are what might be termed 'new folk' - poetic lyrics conjuring delicate images, sung with the intimacy of a close friend.
Like a fine wine, this is an album to be savoured, not rushed. So if your idea of a goodtime is dimmed lights, a bottle of fine vintage, and an album to immerse yourself in, then Holly Throsby could be the perfect accompaniment.
