HALFORD Metal God - Esentials Volume 1 CD/DVD Frontiers (2007)
A very good introduction to Rob Halford's varied solo work including Fight and also three new tunes recorded last year and before this release only available from his own online site or ITunes.
Of the three new tunes 'Forgotten Generation' is a straight-ahead Priest like romp, whilst 'Redemption' delves into a bit of industrial metal and Halford as ever IS the Metal God vocally.
'Drop Out' the final new song is the weakest of the three but still worthy of being on here.
Of the earlier solo material you get a demo version of 'Silent Screams' which sees Rob Halford belting it out in power ballad style. 'Slow Down' and 'Resurrection' are certifiably metal classics and really do rock hard. The Fight songs on here have aged well including the brutal 'Into The Pit' and 'Nailed To The Gun' - Russ Parish and Brian Tilse really let fly on the guitars.
The DVD includes interview footage and behind the scenes plus live tracks including 'Made In Hell' and 'Silent Screams'.
For me and many others Rob Halford is the definitive metal vocalist and this is a great introduction to his solo work, which is often on par with Judas Priest.
For those who like a physical package as opposed to downloading this is an ideal way to sample the Metal God.
