My Bass And Other Animals Guy Pratt (Orion)
Bass player Guy Pratt has been touring his one man show about his rock 'n' roll escapdes up and down the UK with great success. Now many of these stories and more make it into this book which is not really his life stort per se, more how rock 'n' roll got into his life and shaped it.
He's played with Pink Floyd (and Dave Gilmour solo), Roxy Music, Bryan Ferry, Madonna, Coverdale/Page and many more. There are some great stories in here aside for the usual sex, durgs and r 'n r, such as his time with David Coverdale, who comes across as part 'Carry On', part old fashioned gentleman.
His time working on a Michael Jackson song is very funny, as is his time on a plane with Jimmy Page which at the end saw Guy being wheeled off the plane on a wheelchair! Why? You'll have to read the book... Even the band Toy Matinee gets a look in. Hardly known here in the UK yet revered by US melodic rock fans.
Pink Floyd fans will be in for a treat as the band are covered in some detail and you get interesting insights into messers Gilmour, Mason and Wright (now Guy's father-in law!).
All in all a very easy and enjoyable read from a man whose performed with many legends yet still comes across as a down to earth musician and a man passionate about his music.
