GREAT WHITE Back To The Rhythm Frontiers (2007)
Formed with the moniker of Dante Fox back in 1981, last year saw 5 of their previous members reunite for a 25th Anniversary celebration which has culminated in the bands first album proper in 8 years. Unmistakeable as Great White, here they serve up their own unique brand of blues with a hard rock edge.
Although, it seems there's a lot more in common with Can't Get There From Here than earlier offerings, this is still a massive step towards healing wounds, old and new. From the up-tempo Back To The Rhythm right through to when the classy acoustic ballad Just Yesterday closes proceedings, they have presented a very strong comeback album. One, which will deservedly sit side by side with its predecessors.
A couple of tracks make it here from the aborted recording sessions in 2000, opener Back To The Rhythm and semi-ballad Play On. Both of which were co-written with Jack Blades and previously available on the live recording Thank You … Good Night! Though nobody can play ballads as well as these guys, they have resisted temptation to overload on them and have struck a nice balance. Standin' On The edge, proving they still have the riffs. The stand out tracks are Was The Night giving a nod to House Of Broken Love and Here Goes My Head Again, which also has a familiar feel. European editions will also get a bonus track, Humble Pies 30 Days In The Hole, somehow they always know how to choose the right covers!
After eight years waiting, fans will be raving over this, don't leave it so long next time boys!
