FUORIUSO Black Signs Fuel/Sweet Poison Records (2007)
Billing themselves as a Street Metal, Italian band Fuoriuso are a complex mix of styles, though definitely of the sleazy variety and pretty much from the Hanoi Rocks school of gutter life.
With band members Holly on vocal duties, Lucky Toxic on bass, Van Toxic playing guitar and Rig supplying the drums, you know what to expect. An unusual intro, which sounds very much like an old 78 gives way to a thrash fest in the shape of Sexy Teens (The Ecstasy) with a riff very similar to a beefed up Ballroom Blitz.
Complete with it’s compellingly risqué lyrics, this kicks off the album in fine style, making sure it rarely, if ever, manages to raise itself above kerb level. Belligerence and expletives litter throughout, with dark decadent nights brought to mind through Danger In The City and F.T.W.
'Close your eyes and touch yourself' growls vocalist Holly, during My Sweet Witch, representative of the lyrical content. A cover of the Sex Pistols song Liar follows, though not quite in the same punk manner as the original on the Never Mind The b*llo*k album, this has a slightly more electronic, Rob Zombie feel to it.
Closing with Sexy Teens (The Dream) they return to the opening track but with rather stark sounding piano and keyboards instead of the thrash background, help highlight the intensity of the worrying subject.
