ELIAS HULK Unchained BGO (2007)
Stoner garage rock with riffs aplenty and solos a-go-go in latest reissue of mega-rare release from 1969.
Google this band and you'll find many mentions but not so many plaudits. Elias Hulk came from nowhere much and maintained this trajectory after the album bombed, the band blaming lack of promotion.
Other factors may have played a part. Poor production: recorded in just over one day, it sounds as if the vocalist was locked in the men's room down the corridor from the studio. The music: the songs and performances are just adequate. The cover art: amateurish and trite.
No bonus tracks here but nonetheless, this nicely-packaged release does benefit from informative notes and period pictures. One for hard core completists.
