DR HOOK Hits And History (CD/DVD) EMI (2007)
Just about the only surprise about this Sight & Sound Greatest Hits package is that it is released a fortnight after Valentine's Day. What could have been more perfect to accompany the box of Black Magic and bunch of daffs?
Well fear not, you could always buy it now and put it away for the love of your life's birthday, next Christmas or even next year's Valentine's Day. Because what you get here is a definitive cd and dvd collection with 23 tracks on the cd 14 on the dvd.
In many ways ahead of there time, Dennis Locorriere and Ray Sawyer teaming up way back in 1968 long before their breakthrough in 1972 with the haunting Sylvia's Mother which reached the top 5 on both sides of the Atlantic.
But it was a fairly spectacular fall from grace following that hit and by 1974 the band had been dropped by their record company and were virtually penniless.
However fate intervened and A Little Bit More recorded in 1976 was another turning point pushing the band once again towards the top of the charts - it was held off the top spot only by Elton John & Kiki Dee's Don't Go Breaking My Heart.
From there, the hits kept coming - If Not You, More Like The Movies, When You're In Love With A Beautiful Woman, Better Love Next Time and Sexy Eyes to name but a few. And of course they're all featured here.
As you might expect the videos are somewhat dated, but it's a nice bonus. And who wouldn't want an album featuring a track so wonderfully titled as: You Make My Pants Want To Get Up And Dance?
