DIESEL PARK WEST Damned Anthems Angel Air SJPCD240 (2007)
Diesel Park West released a classic debut album 'Shakespeare Alabama' back in the 80's but due to lack of record label support never achieved the step up to the big time.
They are still going strong and this double live CD captures them at various times between 1989 and 2004. Overall the live sound quality is very good although the only minor quibble is that some songs seem to be cut and lead straight into another song and it does break the flow of the live gig feel up.
That aside the band produce sterling versions of 'Like Princes Do' and 'All The Myths On Sunday', the bands two most instantly recognisable songs. Their sound is not unlike a more guitar led Mission/Icicle Works meets the Bryrds with a big emphasis on harmonies and neat guitar riffs. They also do a good cover of 'Mr. Soul' penned by Neil Young and 'Rock 'N' Roll Woman'.
One definitely for fans of the band and if you missed them first time around grab this and their excellent debut album pronto.
