BEN LEE Ripe New West Records (2007)
Ben Lee may not be a name you instantly recognise but he has worked with some fellow 'name' musicians such as Evan Dando and Ben Folds. Music wise this is a pop rock gem that will appeal to fans of everyone from Butch Walker through to Tom Petty (Heartbreakers keyboards player Benmont Tench guests on this album).
Some really lovely melodies on here like 'Love Me Like The World Is Ending', a single if every there was one and 'Birds And Bees'. Ben Lee really has a knack of penning very catchy songs coupled with on the ball lyrics like on 'American Television'. Billy Squier comes to mind on 'Sex Without Love', great drum sound and chorus.
Along with the new album by Farrah, this album is a must have for anyone who likes power pop rock. In an ideal world these tunes would be all over the radio!
