ANOUSCHKA My Kind Of Heartbreak
Caught somewhere in the song writing spectrum of Sheryl Crow, Shelby Lynne and Bonnie Rait, Anouschka would, I am sure, be the first to admit that she's not the most technically gifted vocalist to grace the boardwalks. And she would no doubt be given a rough ride by Simon Cowell and company if she were to audition for American Idol.
But that would be missing the point. On this self-produced and self released album she's mixed the vocals high in the mix and her quirky, honest delivery adds something to the overall package that you just can't manufacture - integrity.
Blending blues, jazz, rock and Americana it's an intriguing album that gets better with every listen. With a tight bunch of supporting cast of musicians - Chuck Anthony - guitars, Joacim Otterbjork - bass and James Bradley Jnr - drums, it's a reflective set list, that's gentle, soothing, upbeat and infuriatingly intoxicating all at the same time.
It makes a refreshing change to hear an artist who is prepared to be themselves and not to try and conform to the stereotype. And it could be enough to single Anouschka out from the crowd.
