XSAVIOR Caleidoscope Atenzia Records (2005)

Xsavior

Now this one intrigued me as it features the wonderful vocal talents of Goran Edamn (Kharma/Streetalk/Brazen Abbott) but fronting a pomp meets prog rock band! Those expecting a melodic rock/AOR feats are best advised to check out some samples first as this is full blown pomp – nearest for me has to be the mad but genius Valensia and A.C.T.

Musically it has all bar the kitchen sink in the mix – just wallow in the 70’s prog/pomp of ‘Lex The Fly’ where the vocals sound like Kate Bush on the ‘ooh’ parts – I kid you not. ‘Take Me Hone’ is the nearest on here to anything that could be a single and with its layered harmonies could easily do well on rock radio. The epic ‘Taj Mahal’ really shows the musicianship of the band and harks back to the 70’s output of Kansas and Styx – great stuff! The keys of Matt Norberg really stand out and are a key part to the band’s appeal and sound – a very talented player.

This won’t be for everyone as many will think ‘what the f***?’, especially those expecting some melodic rock like the excellent Karma ‘Wonderland’ release. But give it a try and those who like OTT pomp/prog along the lines of A.C.T. Valensia and even Queen will find much to enjoy on here.
