Celebrating a country rock legend...
Willie Nelson is without doubt a living legend and is joined here, in the
3rd annual concert celebrating his music, by others such as Keith Richards,
Bob Dylan, Jerry Lee Lewis and Joe Walsh along with other big names like Kid
Rock, Shelby Lynne and Merle Haggard.
Hollywood star, James Caan, is our host for the evening and from the opening
chords of 'Georgia on a Fast Train' to the last notes of 'On the Road
Again', it struck me exactly how tight Willies’ backing band is and the way
each guest performer fitted in so well, musically, with them.
Highlights of the show include the energetic opening number 'Georgia on a
Fast Train' (featuring The Eagles’ Joe Walsh) and 'One with the Sun'
featuring the beautiful voice of Shelby Lynne alongside Willie, whose voice
is complimented by the female vocal - this is evident many times on the night
especially on the duet of 'Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow' featuring Carole
King.
Willie is joined by Toots Hibbert for a great rendition of 'Still is
Still Moving to Me' and Toots is joined by Ben Harper for the Reggae of
'Pressure Drop'. There is a great rock moment in 'Cisco+ Kid' featuring Los
Lonely Boys and the strange, but equally good, pairing of Kid Rock and Jerry
Lee Lewis on 'Whole Lotta Shakin’ Going On'.
My personal favourite, though, was Willie and Keith Richards doing 'We Had it All' and the group finally
'On the Road Again' featuring all the guest artists from the concert. There is an in depth 'Behind the Scenes' bonus featurette included which has
some great backstage moments that were not aired in the original TV broadcast. Overall a great DVD, highly enjoyable.
