THE WILDHEARTS Coupled With (Gut GUTCD27) (2004)
Not a new studio album but a twenty song collection of rarities &
B-sides. The Wildhearts are one of the few bands whose so called B-sides are
sometimes better than the singles! Mainman Ginger knows how to write a
catchy tune coupled with barbed lyrics. There is a hit single on here,
‘Stormy In The North. Karma In The South’ which surprisingly didn’t feature
on last year’s studio album ‘The Wildhearts Must Be Destroyed’ and it’s a
belter of a tune!
The band’s version of the ‘Cheers’ theme tune is also on
here and they make it so much better than the original. Plenty of rock tunes
on here including ‘Action Panzer’ (great title), ‘Move On’ and ‘Putting It
On’. A few songs miss the mark for me like ‘Hit It On The Head’ but then you
do get the boogie of ‘Danny’s Dancin’.
A must have for fans but for those new to the band check out the ‘Best
Of’ and last years’ ‘The Wildhearts Must Be Destroyed’.
