WARRANT ‘Most Wanted’ Mausoleum Records (2004)
Another ‘Best Of’ featuring re-recorded tracks by the line-up of Jani
Lane (vocals), Jerry Dixon (bass), Erik Turner (rhyhm guitar), ex-Kingdon
Come guitarist Rick Steier and drummer Mitch Dynomite.
Unlike the White Lion release Warrant have stayed fairly true to the originals but with a more
modern production and heavier sound on some e.g. ‘The Jones’. Jani Lane is
often ridiculed for some of his lyrics (like ‘Cherry Pie’!) but he does
write some damn fine tunes like ‘I Saw Red’ and ‘Uncle Tom’s Cabin’.
Warrant also tackle a few covers including an ill-advised version of Bon
Jovi’s ‘Lay Your Hands On Me’ - not very good at all. But the cracking
version of ‘Photograph’ (Def Leppard) more than makes up for this and Cheap
Trick’s ‘I Want You To Want Me’.
A prefect place for new fans to start and with the added bonus of a few
covers. Be interesting to see how Warrant develop now that Jani Lane has
left and Jamie St. James (Black ‘N’ Blue) has taken over vocal duties.
