UFO Showtime SPV (2006)
A live double CD (with an accompanying DVD release) recorded earlier this year in Germany.
The line-up includes Phil Mogg, Paul Raymond and Pete Way joined by relative new boys, guitarist Vinnie Moore and drummer Jason Bonham (who has since been replaced by the returning Andy Parker). The second CD is certifiable classics including ‘Rock Bottom’, ‘Lights Out’ and ‘Too Hot Too Handle’ – all played with passion and proves Phil Mogg has lost none of his vocal power down the years.
The first CD sees newer material given an airing including the blissful ‘Baby Blue’ and ‘Fighting Man’ (okay that’s newish). The band plays well together with Vinnie Moore sticking to the original tunes and adding a few personal touches without changing the overall sound of songs. A very partisan crowd as well with chants of ‘UFO’ between most songs.
Obviously not a classic like ‘Strangers In The Night’ but a very strong live album nonetheless and a perfect way to enjoy one of rock’s most underrated bands.
