TREY GUNN Untune The Sky (Inside Out IOMCD145) (2003)
This, Trey Gunn's seventh album, will appeal to those who bought the last John-Paul Jones
album. No coincidence that we're talking bass players here. And in Trey's case we're talking
touch guitar, a weird instrument that looks like a lute at the top and a rock guitar at the bottom with
the range of a piano.
A King Crimson mainstay since 1994, this is an album of soundscapes, world-tinged vibes
and exotic instrumentation. Bass-led of course and predominately instrumental, it will capture your interest not least
because of the variety of sound textures on offer. Frequently hypnotic, and good background fodder to while away the late
night, and as an antidote to the current King Crimson DVD which also features Gunn on touch guitar.
