THE PADDINGTONS 50 to A £ Gobeat 9871846 (2005)
The Paddingtons are another band hot off The Libertines-esque bandwagon
complete with the mandatory grot and roll lyrics and Clash-isms. Although
regularly referred to as London scenesters, the five piece Paddingtons
actually hail from sunny Hull.
The single 50 To a £ is upbeat and provides 3.04 minutes of no frills pure
indie fun, begging for it to be danced to by every indie kid wanting to do
their knackered Converse proud.
Although lead singer Tom Atkins cannotactually sing in tune, the rawness of his voice adds to the grot and roll
element and makes the lyrics ring out and become hard hitting. The single
contains classic energy fuelled power pop contrasted with dirty rock and
roll. Although this has been done before, 50 to a £ stands out and provides
a anthem released just in time for the summer.
