THE ANSWER Cathouse, Glasgow, 14 October 2006
Well this has to be the fastest turnaround ever for a review! The show finished ten minutes ago but due to the extraordinary novelty of a rock band playing near my house, it's done, dusted and I'm safely back home where I belong!
I last encountered The Answer when they supported Whitesnake earlier in the year but in their quest to win the title of hardest touring band in the world, ever, they're still out there, this time coming to dingy club tucked away in the historic vaults of Edinburgh. They looked a little lost when they supported Dame Coverdale but on a cramped stage in front of a few hundred folk they absolutely stormed the place.
They sounded incredible as they raised the rafters with their seventies infused blues rock. As it was last time around 'Preachin' is a standout but some of the other tracks from the album have been honed night upon night into outstanding songs - 'Keep Believin' and 'Into The Gutter' especially. The latter track with its Bon Scott era riffing grafted on to a Foghat boogie riff just exploded.
It was good to finally get a close look at Paul Mahon playing his guitar and Cormac Neeson still sends a chill down the spine every time he sings. You really need to see this band live as they burn down the house.
