Purple guitarist in solo live outing...
No doubting Steve Morse as one of the all time great guitarists, shown with both Dixie Dregs and The Steve Morse Band long before the call from Deep Purple.
This 1990 performance (originally for a German TV show) in front of a small, enthusiastic yet polite and fairly static crowd show the amazing musicianship from this 3 piece.
It's not all hard rock though, it's a little jazzy in places, although largely too rock for fusion. Some almost fusion moments mix with some more southern and straight hard rock moments.
You can't fault the musicianship or the rock music, the man is often considered the guitarists' guitarist with some justification.
When he rocks he really rocks, and the bass and drums knock out some excellent rhythms. But the set is instrumental, crowd tame and running time about an hour. A faint smell of the TV Company emptying its vaults and cashing in on the name.
That said, if you like it instrumental, if you're remotely a Steve Morse fan, you'll love this. Balance slightly addressed with 4 bonus tracks from a show in 1984 and a promo video.
