STATETROOPER Escape Music ESM095 (2003)
Originally released way back in 1987, the only full album by the band who
featured ex-MSG vocalist Gary Barden. Good news is that the band are back
together and recording a new album for release next year through Escape.
Plus this re-release features six bonus tracks - four of which are live. Of
the bonus tracks check out ‘Juliet’, a classy piece of melodic rock and the
live version of ‘Set Fire To The Night’, which is very guitar heavy live
courtesy of guitarists Jeff Summers and Martin Bushell.
There is a real must hear gem on here - ‘She Got The Look’. After a
blissful keys intro its straight into prime time 80’s melodic rock so
beloved of Night Ranger, Survivor, et al I just love this song and can only
kick myself for not checking out this album when it first came out. Other
delights include opener ‘Shape of Things to Come’, which is another uptempo
rocker and ‘Too Late’. For MSG fans there is a live version of ‘Armed and
Ready’.
Another worthy re-issue from Escape and with six bonus tracks you can’t
go wrong. Essential for all 80’s melodic hard rock fans.
