STATE OF MIND Memory Lane (MTM Classix 068197)(2004)
Another in the fine series of classic albums gets a re-release by MTM.
Most of the tracks on here come from the band’s 1994 album, ‘Mother’ plus
two songs from their 5-track promo album and two unreleased tracks. Vocalist
Conny Lind is a classic hard rock vocalist with bags of power and passion in
his voice, none more do than ‘My Kind Of Life’ and ‘Up On The Top’ uptempo rockers that
sounds very Hagar-era Van Halen.
The band adds a bit of futuristic sound
i.e. programming and electronic backing to ‘Extreme World’ that trundles
along nicely. ‘Dream Those Dreams’ is the pick of the ballads, with a tasty
keyboard riff driving it along nicely. Of the unreleased tracks perhaps
‘Gypsy Rave’ should have stayed that way as it spoils the rest of the album,
although the other unreleased track ‘Hang Tough’ deserves an airing.
A sound slice of classic sounding melodic hard rock - nothing spectacular
but well worth a listen if you enjoy Van Halen, ‘big hair’ era Whitesnake
and Dokken.
