STARBREAKER Frontiers FRCD232 (2005)
Starbreaker is a new band/project fronted by TNT vocalist Tony Harnell,
ably assisted by Magnus Karlsson (guitar/keys), Fabrizio Grossi
(bass/producer) and John Macaluso (drums). It’s certainly heavier than TNT
but not sure I’d call it metal like the promo blurb does, more classic hard
rock in sound and style. The sound of Starbreaker is more in line with Tony
Harnell’s other offshoot Westworld, in that the guitars take a more
prominent role and the riffs are a lot heavier.
Production is crystal clear with crisp guitars throughout. Some good
driving rockers on here like opener ‘Die For You’ and ‘Crushed’. No real
stinkers on here but I could certainly do without the instrumental track,
which looks out of place in the context of the whole album. Tony Harnell
sings up a storm as usual and won’t disappoint his fans.
An enjoyable album and one that fills the gap nicely until a new TNT
album comes along.
