SOUTHERN GENTLEMEN ‘Double Your Pleasure’ (Leviathan Records 20032-2) (2003)
The second album by the blues rock trio who features guitar wizard David
T Chastain on vocals and guitars, Kevin Kekes on bass and Mike Haid on
drums. Plenty of sleazy blues here including ‘Down On My Knees’ and ‘Love
Affair Gone Bad’ - early era Whitesnake fans will identify readily with
these two tunes. There is also plenty of jamming on here with the rhythm
section adding a pounding backing to the whole album. ‘Racing Back To
Mississippi’ speeds along on a crisp riff and gives early ZZ Top a run for
their money!
If riff heavy blues rock is your thing, like prime time ZZ Top, Hendrix,
Walter Trout et al you will really enjoy this album. David T Chastain
certainly knows how to play the guitar, pulling off some great solos
throughout the CD - check out ‘Racing Back To Mississippi’. But he keeps it
blues based as opposed to the OTT soloing you get on some albums.
