SKYCLAD Live At The Dynamo (NMC Music 2002)
Taken from two Dynamo festivals - in ’92 and ’95 - this represents the
classic Skyclad line-up with Martin Wylkier on vocals. It is heavy metal
but with a twist - they have a fiddle player! This adds a very folky feel to
many of the songs and also adds depth to the songs.
‘Another Fine Mess’ is a rollicking rocker - Wylkier’s vocal is very gritty in style, not unlike
Lemmy! ‘Art Nazi’ is another heads down rocker and the fiddle playing almost
feels like a lead guitar, such is the pace it is played at. The guitars are
right up in the mix and for a live album the sound quality is very clear.
‘Spinning Jenny’ is one of their more well known numbers and this highlights
how well the band blended guitar power with fiddle music. A high note to end
the CD on. ‘Just What Nobody Wanted’, features keyboards underlining some
great guitar work. Once you get used to Wylkier’s vocal style you will enjoy
this greatly. If you like metal with a folk twist, give this a listen.
