RONNIE LANE How Come? Alchemy STRTR164 (2003)
Another in the low priced 'introduction to' series. This time it is
co-founder of the Small Faces and later member of the Faces, Ronnie Lane. He
also has his won band in the mid-70’s Slim Chance but was cruelly struck
down by MS and died in 1997.
A good selection of songs across Ronnie Lane’s career but sadly the inlay
sleeve has no song writing credits, line-ups or where the songs originate.
Great version of the Faces ‘Ooh La La’ and a jazzed up cover of ‘Brother Can
You Sapre A Dime?’ Many of the tunes have a distinct folk tinge with
mandolin a key instrument ahead of guitar, none more so than ‘Poacher’ and
‘How Come’, two cracking tunes. There is even a touch of 60’s balladry on
‘Only You’, a distinct touch of Gene Pitney style vocals on there!
